What is the job of the philosopher? It is to live the philosophy as best as they can. Will the philosopher mess up? Yes. Will the philosopher make mistakes? Yes, they are human. Will the philosopher fail to live up to their own standards? Yes, repeatedly. But that’s the job.
The job is not to preach. Not to say fancy words. Not to look the part, or play the part, but be the part. As Nietzsche once wrote, “I think of myself as a philosopher only in the sense of being able to set an example.” He was a good example of some things, a bad example of others (or a good example of what not to do) but he was right. And he did his best.
