It’s Time: The Daily Stoic New Year, New You Challenge

We all know professional procrastinators. You know, those people who constantly put stuff off. Who always have some new plan in the works to improve their health, their finances, their work, their friendships, their relationships. I’m ready to start eating better, they say...after the holidays. I’m ready to settle down...soon. I’m ready for my next big project...I just have to do something else first.

We know these people because we are these people.

Every one of us wants to improve, wants to be better, wants to have better habits, live better, think better. Many of us even know what to do. But we can’t seem to actually do it. Time passes, the plans don’t come to pass, and then, as the Talking Heads famously sang, there we are, same as it ever was.

Our problem is that what we really want isn’t improvement: it’s reinvention. It’s wholesale change. That’s why this coming moment, January 1st, is so powerfully important. It’s a new year. And it’s an opportunity for a new you...if you want it.

To that end, the great Stoic, Epictetus, has the perfect question for us: "How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself?"

You know you deserve better. You know you’re capable of better. What’s it going to take for you to actually ask for it? When are you going to fulfill that potential that just’s sitting there?

How about right now? Because it’s possible. This year. We’re putting it to you here: Stop putting it off until tomorrow, until Monday, waiting for it to just happen. Because it won’t. Someone has to take control.

That someone is you.

We created the New Year, New You Challenge for that person and for that reason—to help you create a better life, and a new you in 2020.

Take Control In 2020 ...

The Daily Stoic New Year, New You Challenge is a set of 21 actionable challenges—presented one per day—built around the best, most timeless wisdom in Stoic philosophy. Our goal is to help you make 2020 your best year yet.

This year’s challenge is all-new content, guided by thousands of responses and reactions to our previous challenges, courses, videos, and emails. It’s a whole new challenge based on painstaking research and timeless science, for an all-new, lifechanging experience.

Every year--this year right in front of you--can be the most important year of your life. The one where you become your best, most creative, most centered, most self-reliant and resilient self. We are exiting one of the most culturally disruptive and schizophrenic decades in living memory and entering one of the most volatile and uncertain since the 1940s. Politically, socially, economically, technologically, culturally...everything is up in the air.

Much of this we cannot do anything about, despite the anxiety it produces in all of us. What we can do, however, is focus on the things within our control so the vagaries of global uncertainty do not prevent us from living our best lives and becoming our fullest selves.

Our choices will be the true swing vote this year. Our choices about ourselves.

Some people are going to hire a personal trainer in January as their way of confronting the new year. You have the chance to get step-by-step instruction and encouragement from Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus to become the new you, for the new year in a new decade, that could very well produce a whole new world.

In this challenge, each day you’ll be inspired to create a habit that will help you toward this purpose. You will:

✓ Stop Procrastinating ✓ Learn New Skills ✓ Abandon Harmful Habits ✓ Be More Generous ✓ Develop Immunity To Distractions ✓ Strengthen Your Character ✓ Become the Best Version of Yourself....

What are the risks or the downsides of NOT taking control of your life? For allowing another year to pass not living up to your potential? Not preparing yourself to be the master of your existence? Most of the risks aren’t dire, but none of the downsides are good. Some are just downright miserable. Don’t let that happen in 2020. Again.

Each day you will receive the day’s challenge along with a number of resources and commentary on how to best implement the challenge into your daily life. Each day participants also receive a daily video companion from Ryan Holiday, bestselling author of The Obstacle Is The Way, Ego Is The Enemy, Stillness is the Key, and more.

As part of joining the New Year, New You Challenge, you will have the option of joining the group’s dedicated Slack Channel, where you’ll be able to chat with other challenge participants around the world in real time.

You'll also receive a printable 21-day wall calendar with custom illustration of each day's challenge. It’s a great visual representation of the progress you’ve made, and a preview of the challenges to come.

As Epictetus said, you “should not be satisfied with mere learning, but add practice then training. For as time passes we forget what we learned and end up doing the opposite, and hold opinions the opposite of what we should.”

You’ve always wanted to change. Make 2020 the year where you finally bring yourself closer to living your best life.

Don’t wait to better yourself. Don’t wait to demand more of yourself. Start Now.
