You’re alive right now or you wouldn’t be reading this. But what proof do you have that you’re really living? Don’t overthink that question. It’s not some complicated metaphysical question.

It is instead a variation on Seneca’s trenchant observation: “Often a very old man has no other proof of his long life than his age.” Meaning, they’ve racked up many years but little living.

The same can be true for us if we’re not careful. Yes, we’re here, but are we really here? Are we really getting the most out of this gift we’ve been given? Are we squeezing every second out of every second or are we content to simply let them tick off the clock?

That’s a question for you to answer today: What proof do I have that I’m really alive?
